In order to provide a “one-stop-OHS-shop” to our clients, Action Training Academy embarked on an exciting initiative, establishing our own national Firefighting Servicing Division.

The division has been fully-accredited by the SABS, in terms of South African National Standard - 1475 to service, maintain and overhaul firefighting equipment.

The end product is a state of the art service with:

	A permanent firefighting workshop in Johannesburg which caters for our national fire servicing needs;
	A fleet of SABS approved Service vehicles stocked and equipped to service on-site at our clients premises;
	Uniquely designed Mobile Firefighting Workshops, a first in the country, allowing our technicians to services on-site at our clients premises for extended periods;

To ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and the South African National Standard (SANS), an organisation must provide a healthy, safe and prepared working environment to all employees and persons.

Fire extinguishers and hose reels are considered and intended as a first line of defense when firefighting. It is imperative, by law, that these products are always readily-available and of sound operating condition.

Our SABS accreditation enables Action Training Academy to service firefighting equipment in accordance with the SANS – 1475:

1. Part 1: Portable and wheeled (mobile) fire extinguishers;
2. Part 2: Fire hose reels, hydrants and booster connections.

SERVICE OF FIRE EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH SABS 1475
Every Year "maintenance" must be carried out on all types of Extinguishers	Every 5 Years "extended maintenance" (and overhaul) must be carried out on DCP, Foam, Water and BCF extinguishers	Every 10 Years this "extended maintenance" (and overhaul) must be carried out on C02 extinguishers
Fire Extinguisher Maintenance (Minor Service) @ R55.00 per unit, which includes: Visual inspection Determining correct charge mass Verification of pressure Clean and inspect cylinder and operating mechanism Lubricate working parts and rust prevention Re-seal Sign off and certify operational fitness for the next 12 months Service labels Note: Should the extinguisher be damaged, corroded, or used, it must undergo extended maintenance (major service) or recharge at an additional fee. Hose Reel Services @ R30.00 per unit, which includes: Visual inspection Unroll, leak test, flush & clean Service labels (1 inside and 1 outside) Re-seal Sign off and certify fitness for the next 12 months Note: A flow rate and static pressure test must be done every year - this is an additional fee of R40.00. Hydrant Valve Services @ R30.00 per unit which includes: Visual inspection Pressure check Leak test and flush Gland tighten Re-seal Sign off and certify fitness for the next 12 months Note: A flow rate and static pressure test must be done every year - this is an additional fee of R30.00.	Fire Extinguisher Extended Maintenance (Major Service) @ R115.00 plus the Maintenance cost of R55.00, which includes: Minor service as stated, plus the following: Remove the pressure and the charge Strip the unit completely Internal inspection Pressure test the container Dry the container after testing Replace all seals Recharge the extinguisher (See RECHARGE below) Assemble the appliance Re-pressurise Lubricate working parts and rust prevention Re-seal Sign off and certify cylinder fitness for the next 5 years Service lables Recharge Notes: Foam and Water is discarded and recharged completely with a new charge. Foam is charged for but not Water. DCP is sieved and tested. If it is fit for use, it is returned to the extinguisher and sifting is charged for, alternately if it must be discarded, new powder is used and charged for. Powder that is 10 years old must be discarded regardless of its condition. A labour fee of R180.00 per every hour thereafter will apply. A travel rate of R3.50 per km will be charged on any travel which exceeds the 60km return servicing trip.
