The Heartsaver CPR in Schools Course is designed to teach the techniques of CPR
and choking in adults, children and infants to all high school students. It is divided
into seven 40-minute sessions so that the Course can easily be integrated into school
periods.
The Course provides hands-on practice in the skills of CPR and choking for adults,
children and infants, including barrier devices, pocket masks, the use of Automated
External Defibrillators, and how to activate the emergency services. A 54-page Heartsaver
CPR in Schools Student Workbook and CD-ROM is provided to each participant for review
before, during and after the Course. Two credit card-size Reminder Cards are included
with the Workbook, displaying the simple steps for adult, child and infant CPR and
AED use, and providing information on the recognition of heart attack and stroke.
The accompanying CD-ROM contains a child and infant safety checklist, relevant anatomy
and physiology, legal and ethical issues regarding CPR and AED use, frequently asked
questions, heart attack and stroke, and taking care of an AED. The CD-ROM also includes
video clip demonstrations of adult, child and infant CPR and choking and AED use.
