This course equips learners with the ability to understand and interpret the terminology used and objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. A variety of case studies are presented and discussed in the learning environment, thus bringing in practical and reflexive role-play workplace scenarios at the Action Training Academy. Learner program outcomes include exposure to the national and provincial structures of the legislation (OHS) and an understanding of how this ultimately affects their business. Learners are also introduced to the history of the legislation and how it was amended through the years.

Course Contents - Learner Program Outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of those Acts, and sections of legislation, that pertain to OHS implementation and injury and diseases in the workplace by explaining their requirements
Explain necessary reporting procedures and their relevant forms, such as Annexure 1 and WC2, to ensure appropriate procedures are initiated and expedited
Explain both legislative requirements and company procedures and the consequences of not following them correctly, resulting in delays and non-conformances
Correctly report and IOD or Occupational Disease to the appropriate authority
Correctly and effectively carry out an investigation in respect of an injury or disease in the workplace
Explain the basic knowledge of the Occupational Diseases for Mines and Works Act and Chapter 23 of the Mine Occupational Health and Safety Act
Describe the standard procedure of the reporting of an accident or disease
Describe the compensation procedure
