HEARTSAVER PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid with CPR and AED Course is intended primarily
for those who are expected to provide CPR and first aid for children. The Course
is particularly ideal for child care workers, teachers, parents, grandparents, babysitters
and volunteers who work with children.
The Course provides hands-on practice in the skills of first aid for children, including
child safety, medical emergencies, injuries, environmental emergencies, CPR and
choking for adults, children and infants, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators.
A 146-page Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid with CPR and AED Student Workbook and
CD-ROM is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the Course.
Two credit card-size Reminder Cards are included with the Workbook, displaying the
simple steps for adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, and providing information
on the recognition of heart attack and stroke.
A Paediatric First Aid Quick Reference Guide is also included with the Workbook,
covering choking, bad allergic reactions, diabetes and low blood sugar, seizures,
shock, bleeding, penetrating objects, animal and human bites and poison emergencies.
The accompanying CD-ROM contains suggested first aid kit contents, preparing for
disasters, relevant anatomy and physiology, legal and ethical issues regarding CPR
and AED use, frequently asked questions, taking care of an AED, common childhood
illnesses, groups of poisons and a sample medical emergency response report. The
CD-ROM also includes video clip demonstrations of removing gloves, finding the problem,
stopping bleeding, bandaging, splinting, adult, child and infant CPR and choking
and AED use.
